The Friends of the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music UK held their launching and first fundraising concert on 25th June 2014. The event was generously hosted by Sir Vernon and Lady Ellis and presented by the BBC world presenter Zeinab Badawi.
The evening brought together world famous musicians and old friends and supporters to celebrate music and culture and to raise funds for PALMUSIC’s educational and cultural projects.
We are particularly thankful to the pianist Piers Lane, violinist Tasmin Little, soprano Dima Bawa, oud-player Ahmad Al-Khatib and percussionist Yousef Hbeisch, whose superb performance of classical and Arabic songs communicated the power of music to bring people and nations closer.
The trustees of the FESNCM UK raised awareness of our mission to enhance the Music Education of Palestinians and to foster the creative collaboration between Palestine and the UK. Zeibab Badawi gave an inspiring speech about the need to support the educational and cultural development of Palestinians who live under such restricted conditions.
It was a wonderful evening and we are very grateful to all our friends and supporters who joined us on this special occasion, embracing our cause and donating towards our on-going projects. Following this successful event, the Friends of the ESNCM UK will award a number of scholarships to Palestinian students, provide instruments to the Gaza Music school and send British musicians to Palestine for Masterclasses. We will also support a talented Palestinian teacher to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and arrange educational visits to the UK for Palestinian young musicians.
