On Saturday, 1o January 2015, five students from the Edward Said National Conservatory of  Music – Gaza branch- took part in the leading Talent Show in the Middle East, Arabs’ Got Talent, and earned the Golden Buzz prize. Their oriental ensemble, called Al-Takht Al-Sharqi, traveled from Gaza to Lebanon and gave an emotional and moving performance which deeply moved judges and audiences alike.

The video follows the children’s rehearsals at the ESNCM Music School and their daily struggle in besieged Gaza as well as their hard travel in order to reach the programme’s base in Beirut. Their performance shows the strength and courage of the young musicians and proves the power of music to trigger emotions and convey a message of hope.

As the students say, they wanted to show the world that Gaza still has hope and wonderful talents. Their music genuinely proved this and the Friends of the ESNCM are proud to support them throughout their musical journey under these very restricted circumstances.

The band consisted of the following students:

Ahamad Al Madhoun: Singing

Mahmoud Quhail: Qanoun

Ramzi Al Far: Percussion

Rima Ashour: Nay

Siraj Al Sersawi: Oud

Mohammad Al Ashy: Oud

Please support our appeal to send more instruments to Gaza Music School and enable more students to discover the powerful and therapeutic world of music.
