Despite the terrible conditions in northern Gaza, the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music (ESNCM) is delivering music activities for the community, with the aim of bringing smiles to the faces on of children and their families. So far, 24 schools have been involved in Jabalia City, Jabalia Town and Beit Lahia.

We are, as ever, deeply respectful of the talents and resilience of the teachers, musicians, and our colleagues at the ESNCM. We admire the courage and optimism of Palestinian families, who even now, speak of a ‘coming dawn of freedom and peace’.

We are delighted to share this report from ESNCM, on the activities in Nuseirat Refugee Camp.

Led by the academic supervisor of the Gaza Music School Mohammad Al-Habbash, and with the assistance of students Hala Al-Sammak and Saleh Jaber, two musical educational activities were implemented in Al-Nuseirat Elementary School A, now operating as a shelter for families who have fled their homes around the Gaza Strip.

The activities in Al-Nuseirat Refugee Camp are a part and continuation of a broader program of activities being implemented around the Gaza Strip, which the conservatory aims to extend to other areas in the coming weeks.

The conservatory thanks the efforts of the school’s administration for hosting the activities, especially Mr. Jaber Thabet the educational counsellor.

Al-Habbash said, ‘The atmosphere was beautiful, and the engagement of children was amazing. Their parents joined the activities, and they even asked us to come every day.’ He explained that ‘Through these activities, the aim is to create spaces of learning through playing and spreading happiness among children’.
