Shadi Khoury is a 16 year old ESNCM student. Shadi is also the son of Suheil Khoury, the General Director of the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music (ESNCM). He was attacked and detained by Israeli Forces in the middle of the night on the 18 October 2022.

Update 28 November 2022

We are so relieved and delighted to hear that Shadi is home. Although we remain concerned that
Here is an update from his grandmother:

I promised you won’t hear from me until Shadi was at home.   Well, it happened sooner than I had thought.  The court session for the appeal of the District Attorney took place this morning and the judge ruled his release for house arrest. He is on his way home now, and the whole neighborhood is preparing his favorite dish of “Koussa wa waraq” (Stuffed zucchini and vine leaves.)  House arrest might be a long process, but at least he is at home with the family, and his dog Abboud, and he will be doing his studies on-line, especially that his school has been so supportive.  And of course, he would be joining the family in cheering his favorite teams in the World Cup games.  This first Sunday of Advent was a good omen, and will remain a memorable day for Shadi and all the family and his friends.   Thank you all for prayers, for your great support, solidarity and friendship, and for all the pressure you had exerted, which I am sure has helped a lot. So, with this note, our nightmare is over.  Have a blessed Advent season.  Samia.”

Update at 25 October 2022

We at PalMusic are extremely sorry to hear about the attack and detainment of Shadi Khoury, a 16 year old ESNCM student. Shadi is also the son of Suheil Khoury, the General Director of the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music (ESNCM).

Our hearts also go out to Suheil, Samia and family and we hope Shadi will be back with family very soon indeed. Shadi at 16 years old is a child, and this treatment is inexcusable in any context anywhere.

Shadi Khoury

Here’s an extract from what Suheil Khoury has told us.

As you could imagine, things in the last few days have been very hectic and difficult for all the family. Shadi is still in prison. He is still under interrogation, and all our lawyer’s attempts to free him, even to a form of house arrest, have been denied. The way Shadi was attacked and brutally beaten in front of our eyes as we were restrained at gun point has been a very traumatic experience for our family. There seems to have been a huge international social media campaign for the release of Shadi, This is not at all a political issue but a matter of human rights.”
